Andrew O’Neil Joins Distilled Spirits Council as International Trade Policy Manager
WASHINGTON − The Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS) today announced the appointment of Andrew O’Neil as the organization’s International Trade Policy Manager.
In this role, Andrew will assist in identifying and addressing regulatory developments that affect exports of U.S.-produced distilled spirits; work to remove trade barriers in key international markets; and support Market Access Program initiatives to boost U.S. spirits exports.
“After nearly four years of dealing with debilitating tariffs, opening foreign markets and ensuring new barriers are not imposed on our industry will be instrumental to the long-term growth of the U.S. distilled spirits sector,” said Rob Maron, DISCUS Vice President for International Trade. “Andrew’s past trade experience at the Embassy of Canada and the EU will be of great value to DISCUS as we work to expand exports in these two key markets and resume our great American export success story.”
Prior to joining DISCUS, Andrew served as a trade policy officer at the Embassy of Canada in Washington, D.C. where he analyzed U.S. trade and economic developments and advised Canadian officials on issues impacting the bilateral relationship, including the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, other free trade agreement negotiations, regulatory measures, tariff developments and market access opportunities.
Andrew started his career as a Trainee with the European Parliament offices in Washington and Brussels, focusing on U.S. foreign relations and trade policy.
Andrew received his M.A. in European Foreign Affairs from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium and a B.A. in Political Science and International Studies from Saint Louis University in Missouri.
